  Key silvicultural techniques:
Sites with better water conservation capacity are used for planting from early April to early May, pits are prepared in size of 40 ×40 × 40 cm). Planting spacing is 2 × 3 m. The proportion of female to male is 8:1. Watering in pits should be conducted at planting or use of water conservation measures such as chemical agents and mud digging. Weeding is needed in the second year after planting. Root sprouts should be removed every year during July to August to prevent animal browse and invasion of pests and diseases.

  Suitable areas for planting:
Regions with an annual rainfall of 400-600 mm in Inner Mongolia and Shaanxi provinces.
