Variety characteristics:
Deciduous shrub, bark smooth and colored in grayish brown. Fruit long oval in shape, colored in yellow when matured. Pericarp is smooth. Fruit production of 5-year old trees is larger than 5000 kg per mu. The average individual fruit weight is 200-300 g, and maximum 800 g, Flesh relatively thick, white color, relatively juicy. Flowering period is in March, and fruiting period from August to September. Total acid content in fresh papaya is 2.6%, total sugar 2.1%, Vc 91.6 mg /100 g, Oleanolic acid 146.6mg/100g. Used for food and medicine.
Key silvicultural techniques:
The variety is suitable for fertile sandy loam with loose texture, good drainage and close to water supply. Site preparation is done by digging pits or by complete plough plus planting holes. Tree planting is done in cloudy day or sunny day after rain after the beginning of winter or before Tomb Sweeping Day. Scarification and weeding are conducted once timely during June to July in year of planting, and additional fertilization applied with 60- 100 g compound fertilizer and 30- 50 g urea per plant. From the second year, scarification and weeding, and topdressing are carried twice a year. Pruning of insect branches, dead branches, long branches, high branches, inner branches and dense branches is done during winter dormancy, usually from December to later February next year.
